Why our process can take a little longer
Our recruitment process is intentionally thorough. We involve our partner schools at key stages because we want trainees to begin building relationships with the staff and community who will support them throughout their training year. Our trainees tell us that this early connection is one of the reasons they feel a strong sense of belonging and succeed in their training.
While this approach can sometimes take longer, we know the benefits are worth the wait.

At Teach West London keeping children and young people safe from harm is our number one priority. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all trainees, apprentices, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Teach West London will complete safer recruitment checks for all its applicants, prior to shortlisting any for selection.

Our unique selection process
At Teach West London, we believe that choosing where to train as a teacher is a big decision – which is why our Selection Day is designed to give you a real insight into your chosen school and what it’s like to be part of our immersive training programme.
Unlike many providers who conduct online interviews, we invite you to visit your chosen school in person. This experience allows you to:
- Meet school leaders and future colleagues.
- Engage with pupils and see the school community in action.
- Take a guided tour of the school, helping you picture yourself there.
- Test out your commute to ensure it works for your personal commitments.
- Deliver a short lesson, gaining first-hand experience and valuable feedback. Don't worry - you will know the subject, lesson title, learning objective and age range you’ll be working with beforehand, so you can plan accordingly.
This face-to-face approach gives you the chance to make a fully informed decision about whether the school – and Teach West London – is the right fit for you. It’s a chance to challenge yourself, reflect on your teaching ambitions, and take your first steps towards a fulfilling career in the classroom.
Recommendations for candidates
To prepare effectively for the Selection day:
- Utilise available resources: watch our video below (or view the transcript here) and use our ‘preparing for your interview lesson’ guide here.
- Practice lesson delivery and seek feedback: rehearse your lesson with friends and or family to ensure clarity, engagement and time management. Ask them for feedback, reflect and make improvements prior to your selection day.

Feedback: After your lesson, you’ll receive feedback. This feedback is a valuable part of your growth and will help you prepare for your training year. We'll also send you a feedback form so you can share your own experience. Thank you in advance for informing us and other future applicants.
