We were delighted to welcome our 2026 - 27 Initial Teacher Training (ITT) cohort as they took their first steps towards a rewarding career in teaching at their Induction Days. 

Across four inspiring days in July, our Secondary and Primary trainees came together to meet their peers and the full Teach West London team for the first time and begin building the knowledge, confidence and professional networks that will support them throughout the year ahead. 

The induction programme introduced trainees to the vision, values and culture of Teach West London, while providing a clear understanding of the expectations and opportunities that lie ahead. From the outset, trainees explored what it means to become an evidence-informed, reflective practitioner who can make a lasting difference to the lives of young people. 

Head of Teach West London, Lesley Mackenney, welcomed the new cohort, recognising the significance of the journey they are about to begin. 

"Choosing to become a teacher is choosing to make a difference every single day. We are proud to support you throughout your training year and beyond, helping you develop into confident, knowledgeable and compassionate teachers." 

Throughout the induction, trainees were introduced to the Teach West London ITT curriculum, which is rooted in the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF). Sessions focused on professional behaviours and expectations, safeguarding, statutory responsibilities, mentor support, assessments and the structure of the training programme, ensuring trainees begin September with clarity and confidence. 

A key focus of the second day was developing practical classroom knowledge. Trainees explored evidence-informed approaches to learning, lesson planning, behaviour and classroom management and considered how effective teaching can create positive outcomes for every pupil. These foundations will continue to be strengthened throughout the year in both training sessions and school placements. 

One of the defining features of the Teach West London programme is the strength of its support network. Throughout the year, trainees will work closely with experienced mentors, subject specialists, ITT Leads and the wider Teach West London team, ensuring every trainee is challenged, encouraged and supported as they work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). 

Beyond the training sessions, the induction days gave trainees the opportunity to build relationships with fellow colleagues, exchange experiences and become part of a collaborative professional community that will continue throughout their training year. 

As our 2026 - 27 cohort prepares to begin their school placements this September, they do so with a shared sense of purpose, growing confidence and the knowledge that they are supported every step of the way. 

We look forward to watching them develop into exceptional teachers who will inspire the next generation.
