In early July, our 2025 Initial Teacher Training (ITT) cohort marked the beginning of their journey into one of the most transformative and rewarding professions - teaching - as they met their fellow trainees for the first time at Induction.
Our Secondary trainees (Days 1 & 2) and Primary trainees (Days 3 & 4) were immersed in the vision, culture, expectations and foundational skills that will guide them through the ITT year and shape them into outstanding educators.
Both inductions began with a powerful keynote by Dame Alice Hudson, CEO of Twyford CofE Academies Trust, who highlighted the profound impact of teaching with the message: “every lesson shapes a life.” Following this, Lesley Mackenney, Head of Teach West London, welcomed the new trainees and affirmed their decision to train with our Teaching School Hub:
“We’re here to support you in the long run, not just in your training year.”
Trainees explored the kind of teacher they aspire to become, the legacy they hope to leave for their pupils and the importance of professionalism, reflection and collaboration in the profession.
Trainees were also introduced to the Teach West London ITT curriculum, rooted in the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework. First day sessions included professional behaviours and expectations, safeguarding and statutory duties and practical training guidance, including mentor meetings, assessments and weekly target setting. This strong framework equips trainees with a clear understanding of what it means to teach with excellence and integrity starting from this September.
The second day of Induction was focused on practical classroom strategies and evidence-informed pedagogy. Trainees took part in sessions on how pupils learn, lesson planning and preparation and behaviour and classroom management. Even at this early stage, trainees have begun developing the tools, mindset and confidence needed to thrive in real classroom environments. These skills will continue to be developed from September in both our training centres and their placement schools.
A key message throughout the Induction and embedded throughout Teach West London's ITT programme is the emphasis on a strong support network. Through the programme entirety, trainees are supported by dedicated school-based mentors, ITT leads and subject specialists aswell as the wider Teach West London team. This ensures that every trainee is equipped to succeed and feel supported on the path to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
One of the highlights of both Induction events was a Q&A session with Teach West London Alumni, who shared their experiences and offered honest, thoughtful insights into the realities of the training year. We are incredibly grateful for their time and openness.
Over the course of the Induction, trainees not only connected with one another but laid the groundwork for a purposeful and impactful year. With clarity, direction and growing confidence, they now step forward ready to learn, lead and inspire.
Welcome to the profession. Welcome to Teach West London, where impact is infinite.
